BOLTON superstar Amir Khan moved a step closer to a dream fight with Floyd Mayweather with a unanimous points victory over American Chris Algieri in New York early on Saturday morning.

Khan secured victory scoring 117-111, 117-111 and 115-113 on the three judges’ scorecards as he notched his fifth successive win and took his overall record to 31-3.

The 28-year-old was in control for much of the fight at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, using his speed and counter-attack to keep native New Yorker Algieri on the back foot.

Khan said: "He came to fight, wanted to win, had his home crowd, but I came here to win.

"The crowd really fired me up the last three rounds when Chris really came at me hard.

"I thought I worked well inside. I've never done a lot of work in the pocket like that and I plan to do more of that in the future.”
