WANDERERS are not the only Championship club seeking a new goalkeeper this summer, so they’d better get their skates on!

With Adam Bogdan set to sign for Liverpool and Andy Lonergan now released, there are a pair of goalkeeping vacancies at the Macron Stadium.

Fans hope that last season’s loan success story Ben Amos will make a return after leaving Manchester United but with cash tight, there can be no guarantees.

To make matters worse Reading, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City are all on the lookout for a new number one, meaning talent is at a premium.

Just for fun we decided to take a look at some of the players on the market, either on loan or free transfers, and whether they would interest Neil Lennon.

BEN AMOS (MANCHESTER UNITED)

Made a massive impression on loan at Wanderers and will definitely be released at Old Trafford this summer – the smart money is on the Macclesfield-born ace being Neil Lennon’s number one choice this summer.

Some feel it could be a gamble as Amos has not had much first team football in the last few years. Others had him at the top of their list even before the departure of Adam Bogdan and Andy Lonergan.

BEN HAMER (LEICESTER CITY)

Under contract and more of a loan option – but the former Charlton keeper mustn’t be impressed by falling behind Mark Schwartzer in the first team picture at Leicester after Kasper Schmiechel’s injury earlier this season.

A long-shot, perhaps, but someone with proven Championship quality.

MARK BUNN (NORWICH CITY)

Released after three years at Carrow Road, the 30-year-old former Blackburn Rovers stopper has decent experience at Premier League and Championship level.

He failed to make a senior appearance last season after falling behind Declan Rudd and John Ruddy but could well welcome a return to the North West.

PAUL ROBINSON (BLACKBURN ROVERS)

EX-England man is 35 now and has a wealth of experience behind him but is surely out of Wanderers’ price bracket, despite being a free agent this summer.

Robinson is on the lookout for another club but has been linked with a return to Leeds United, where he enjoyed the golden spell of his career.

DAVID FORDE (MILLWALL)

Reportedly on the lookout for a club higher up the league after suffering relegation with Millwall, the Republic of Ireland international would command a fee.

Fulham, Reading and Nottingham Forest have taken a look – and at 35 Forde would be unlikely to come to the Macron as a back-up.

WES FODERINGHAM (SWINDON)

On the verge of signing for Birmingham City, if reports are to be believed, but the keeper was also courted by Reading.

The 24-year-old Londoner helped Swindon into the play-off final this year and wants to play in the Championship next season.

ALI AL-HABSI (WIGAN ATHLETIC)

Available on a free transfer and locally based, there are plenty of Wanderers fans who would love to see the experienced Oman international back at the club.

He would not be a cheap option – but we’ve seen first-hand that he can be a world class keeper on his day.

SAM JOHNSTONE (MANCHESTER UNITED)

The trick certainly worked with Ben Amos, so perhaps Neil Lennon could pull in his Old Trafford contacts again and loan the next keeper on the United conveyor belt?

Had loan spells at Doncaster, Preston and Walsall and perhaps at the stage of his career that he needs to progress.

COLIN DOYLE (BIRMINGHAM CITY)

Released after 13 years at St Andrew’s, the Irish keeper has always been a reliable fall-back for the Blues.

He wants to stay in the Championship and would be available at the right price to allow Lennon to bring in another keeper for competition.

STEPHEN BYWATER (DONCASTER ROVERS)

Hasn’t entirely given up on staying at the Keepmoat Stadium but the former West Ham keeper is on the lookout for a Championship club if possible.

Hugely experienced despite being only 33, he could be the ideal back-up option if Lennon gets Amos, or another obvious first-choice.

DAMIAN EMILIANO MARTINEZ (ARSENAL)

Young Gunner who spent last season on loan at Rotherham United and has also had spells at Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday.

Highly thought of around the Emirates but with Arsene Wenger looking likely to bring in another keeper this summer, is this the time for the Argentine to move on?

RADOSLAW CIERZNIAK (DUNDEE UNITED)

Polish keeper who has turned down a new deal at Tannadice and is looking for an English club this summer.

At 32, he needs to be playing regular first-team football but could be the type who falls into Wanderers’ budget.
