NEIL Danns’ World Cup dream might not be over after Guyana lodged an official appeal with FIFA to overturn their recent away goals defeat against St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Wanderers midfielder scored twice in a 4-4 draw last week, which meant the Golden Jaguars went out of the competition at the second round qualifying stage.
Reports in Guyana yesterday claimed the result could now be nullified because St Vincent named an ineligible player in their starting line-up.
English-born Garvin James is the player at the centre of the controversy, the claim being that his passport did not comply with FIFA rules.
St Vincent officials insist the correct permission was gained to allow James to represent the island – but if the claim is substantiated, Guyana could be awarded a 3-0 victory by default, putting them into the next round.
Paperwork problems were commonplace in both legs, with Danns and three other Guyana players denied the chance to play in the first game because their citizenship was not confirmed in time for them to present passports to the match official.
