BEN Amos insists he has left his Manchester United connections far behind as he begins a new chapter in his career at Wanderers.

The goalkeeper, who made a massive impact on loan from Old Trafford last season, spent 14 years with his boyhood club.

But after returning to the Whites on a free transfer this summer the 24-year-old is looking to put the past behind him and prove he is worth a regular spot in the Championship.

“I’ve supported United since I was a kid but at the end of the day, I view this as a job,” he said. “It’s a profession and I’ll strive to do my very best at work.

“I want to be the very best I can, so I don’t attach much emotion to leaving, to be honest. I’m here now, and I can’t wait to get going again.”

Nevertheless, Amos admits the experience he got at Wanderers’ near neighbours will stand him in good stead in establishing himself as a regular under Neil Lennon.

“You can’t help but learn, can you?” he told the club. “I met some great people and I owe them a lot. Working every day with Edwin van der Sar – how many young goalkeepers can say that?

“Sir Alex Ferguson was brilliant with me, gave me opportunities and some good advice, so I’ll look back at my time with United with fond memories.”

Regular football was hard to find for Amos, however, and once he had made his mind up to leave he admits his stint on loan at the Macron last season made it clear where his future lay.

“I enjoyed it,” he said. “In the summer the manager made his intention clear. He said he’d love to have me here, and I said I’d love to play for him so after all the personal terms were agreed it was pretty straightforward.

“I like his style. He’s straight to the point and gets his lads playing for him.”

“I’m positive about the future of this club and what we can do.”

Wanderers confirmed another new signing, former Real Madrid youth product Derik Osede late on Monday night.

The 22-year-old defender has signed a three-year deal with the club, subject to international clearance.

Meanwhile, Craig Davies – released by Wanderers at the end of last season – has joined Wigan Athletic.

The Wales international, who scored six goals for the Whites last term, has signed a two-year contract with the Latics and joins Sanmi Odelusi at the DW Stadium.

“Craig’s a powerful striker who has a proven track record in this division. He’s an experienced player who will inspire those around him and we are absolutely delighted he has chosen to be with us,” said Wigan boss Gary Caldwell.
