NICK Fawcett has called on his Darcy Lever team to make sure they do not finish bottom of the Bolton Association in its final season.

Darcy, who are currently 11 points adrift at the foot of the table, were one of the 10 original clubs who made up the Association in its first ever season in 1889.

And finishing bottom in its last ever season does not bear thinking about, says Fawcett.

"The only thing we're thinking about is getting off the bottom of the league," said the skipper.

"We definitely don't want to finish bottom of the league in its last season.

"I've never finished bottom with Darcy Lever and I don't want to start now.

"Nobody wants to finish bottom and we're no exception. It's up to the players to start performing and get us off the bottom and up the table.

"We're good enough to do it, we've just not got started yet this season, there's no getting away from that.

"We've got to start winning some games, get off the bottom and get a few places up the league."

They will be looking to start the revival tomorrow when fifth-placed Swinton Moorside are the visitors to Hacken Lane.

Fawcett says his side are better than the league table suggests, but accepts they deserve to be there because they have not been performing.

"There are teams above us we believe are weaker than we are," said Fawcett.

"We have a stronger team than last year so we're surprised at where we are in the league.

"But we've massively under-achieved. We started the season poorly and got ourselves in a rut.

"We lost games against teams we should be beating and then we've gone into the next game short of confidence and under-performed again.

"We've struggled massively for runs. It's only the last couple of weeks that we have got 200-plus runs and looked a lot more confident with the bat.

"We are looking to get to 200 now where we weren't looking like getting near that before.

"We didn't know whether to bat first or bowl first because we weren't batting well doing either. Now we're trying to bat first, get a good score on the board and defend it.

"We have quite a few seasoned players who have done well in this league before and at some point we are going to come good.

"Sean Brooks, who joined us from Daisy Hill, and our overseas Ather Abid are two players we are looking to.

"Ather has had a few good scores and not kicked on. He has the ability to win us games and we're looking to him to kick on now. And Sean Brookes has come into a bit of form in the last few weeks."
