BOLTON Golf Club’s team came to life last week when they turned the tables on league A leaders Great Lever with a substantial 6–2 home win.

The Lostock side were in fine form as they cruised to an easy victory which was only their second success of the season.

Team captain Rob Taylor said: “We have not had our complete team available up to now but we had our trusted side on show and it made a big difference”.

Nevertheless, Bolton has only a slender chance to make a significant move up the table with just three matches left including a difficult away trip to Horwich tonight though they will complete their season with two home matches against Westhoughton and Hindley Hall.

The Farnworth club are still in pole position despite their loss and remain 17.5 points above second place Horwich who gained only a narrow 4½-3½ win at Westhoughton last week.

Meanwhile, although without a fixture last week, Dunscar remain just two points behind the Locos in third place with 44 points and have a game in hand.

Fourth place Chorley lost their chance to make a significant move in the league A table when they visited Hindley Hall.

But the home side repeated their return fixture result to hold the Hall o’ th Hill side to a 4–4 draw.

The BGA league B last week had only one match on show when Turton entertained rivals Breightmet.

Turton were looking to gain ground in their league position but only just won by the narrowest of margins – 4½-3½.

Team Captain, Billy Dempsey, showed his disappointment when he commented: “It was just not good enough”.

However, while Breightmet still sit in second place with 48½ points, there are fine margins between the second and fifth places with only 6½ points between them.

There is certainly a deal of potential changes to be seen over the next three weeks.
