A BOLTON rugby league club is toasting the efforts of their junior teams with one trophy in the bag and two other sides in the last four of competitions.

Westhoughton Lions Under-12s won the NWL Development 8-12 Plate after they came back from the jaws of defeat to pick up the 16-14 win by Langworthy Reds last month.

Coach Neil Hart said: "We have got new coaches in Phil Meadowcroft and Paul Sumner and four players, some of whom are new to the sport, have added to the squad.

"They are really gelling well and are a great group of players they did fantastic to get to this stage.

"I think they have come on leaps and bounds with a new philosophy.

"The thing about them is that they are a team and not just individuals like it may have been in the past.

"They are putting in a great effort and I think things are really positive for the club.

"We have the Under-16s and U13s in a semi-final of different competitions.

"I hope they can push on just like we have done and try to win their cups."

Last month, Your Sport reported that the Lions had only lost a few games and continue to impress in their age-group.

Hart added: "We have always tried to be an inclusive club and family one too.

"We just want to give young people the chance to play rugby and make them established in teams.

"As part of the RFL's Embed the Pathway programme we want to give the kids the chance to play at the best level they can and that can be part of playing professionally or for the club.

"Our trophy win and the success of the junior teams is testiment to all the hard work that has gone on at the club."
