THE Bury Over 60s inter-league team beat Bolton on Friday to make it a clean sweep of the games played at Bury Sports Club.

Batting first, the Bury Golden Girls made an excellent start with all batters scoring on the first round.

Corrine Thompson and Dorothy Brennan scored the only rounders of the first innings and Thompson went on to be top scorer with 24 before being caught out.

Joyce Roscoe finished on 20 before also being caught out but escaped with a 'no score' in the middle of her innings.

Sandra Rothwell had 'no score' second time round and punished the visitors by going on to be last batter, denned for 21, giving the home team a first innings total of 128.

Bolton lost Elaine Martindale first time round, however, Lynn Brown scored the first of Bolton’s three first-innings rounders.

Ellen McGuinness scored a rounder on the second round and top scorer Viv Anderton (18) scored one on the third but although last batter Jean Pender (14) and Ellen McGuiness (13) reached double figures, Bolton were all out for 73 and at 55 behind, had to follow-on.

Following the immediate loss of two batters, Anderton scored a rounder to raise the Bolton hopes and after having 'no score' on the first round, Jean Jones was last batter with 28 including two rounders.

Lynn Brown included nine singles in her 14 and Pender bettered her first innings score by scoring 18, taking Bolton to 103 for the innings and 176 for the match.

This meant the home side had to bat a second time with a target of 49 to win.

June English and substitute Fran Budsworth scored rounders on the first round, Sally Dyer, Hilda Mole and Sylvia Davenport did likewise next time round then Chris Yates, Roscoe, Dyer, Mole, Thompson and Budsworth all scored further rounders before Bury declared, taking victory 232-176.

The first cup final of the season is the Horwich Shield match at Walkden Cricket Club on Friday.

Dennis Foulkes will referee the game between Darcy C&SC D and Rivington Ladies who are next to top in Sections N and M respectively.

Section A now looks like being between Rupert Ladies A and Little Lever XI after Rupert demolished Darcy Lever C&SC A last Tuesday.

Unbeaten Rupert might have been expected to win, even they were probably surprised to triumph by 83 in one innings to 55 despite Darcy having several regulars missing.

Chadwick Cup holders Little Lever XI made it through to the final, but not without a scare.

They trailed Walkden CC A by 55-41 after the first innings, but recovered to win the second innings 65-42 to take the match by nine runs at 106-97.

Rupert Ladies A beat Astra Ladies by an innings (102-81) to set up a repeat of last year’s final.

There were a few close finishes last week, the closest being in Section O where LL Ladies B and Gunners Girls are in joint second place.

LL Ladies B, who have a game in hand, were ahead 50-48 after the first innings, but lost 76-75.

In Section I, American Express led Lostock Roofing Ladies by one at half time and held on to win by two (140-138).

In Section M, close-call experts Rivington Ladies staged a come-back against HiQ Fabs B, but lost by four and in Section J, leaders Wallys Dollys lost by five to Dunscar Bridge Ladies.
