DERIK Osede faces around three weeks on the sidelines with an ankle strain after limping out of last night’s 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic.

The centre-half landed awkwardly a few minutes into the second half at the Macron Stadium and will undergo scans this afternoon.

Neil Lennon’s initial thought was that the Spanish defender would definitely miss the opening game of the season against Derby County and the Capital One Cup game with Burton Albion.

And the Wanderers boss had sympathy for his new signing, who has been in good form during pre-season.

“It looks like an ankle strain – he landed and rolled the ankle,” he told The Bolton News.

“There is a bit of swelling around the joint, so he’ll have a scan and get it sorted as quickly as possible but it looks like he’ll be missing the start of the season.

“It’s a real shame for Derik because he has done well for us in pre-season “It isn’t a serious injury – but I’m not going to lie and say it isn’t a blow.

“These things happen and you have to deal with them but we could certainly have done without it.

“Him and Dorian Dervite have worked together all pre-season, so we’re going to have to work on something different over the next week.”
