THERE is a new dawn at Breightmet United as they prepare for the Manchester Football League season.

They start their 2015/16 campaign with a home game against Wilmslow Albion with a new coaching line-up and players.

Paul Roberts took over from Simon Wilcox at the end of the last campaign and he will be helped by Michael Aldred while Sam Holden is a player-coach and Paul Ferguson takes charge of the reserves.

He said: "It was a surprise I thought I was going to be reserve team manager then I got offered the first team job.

"Pre-season has gone pretty good as we lost a few players during the summer so it is a rebuilding process.

"We have enough for two teams but need to continue to strengthen.

"We played the Myles Kenyon Cup and Atherton Cup and played teams from a higher division so it is difficult to gauge how we will play teams at our standard.

"In the last couple of weeks had a few coming in and it will be a bedding in process."

Roberts worked for the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust coaching the disabled teams but this is a new thing for me and I have to recruit players and you are really in charge of the club.

He praised ex-boss Wilcox for all his hard work.

He said: "Simon was brilliant for the club.

"He will still be on the committee and involved with the club but he has decided to take a step back.

"This is a new start for Breightmet United and it will be a tough task but I am really excited about it.

"We have a very good first team and seconds which will be strong this season but we want to get more youth teams and it is something we will be looking at in future."
