WANDERERS have offered a trial Algerian World Cup keeper Rais M’Bolhi, according to reports in the US.

The 29-year-old has been playing for Philadelphia Union in MLS but has experienced difficulties in the States and is seeking a move away after making just nine first team appearances over two seasons.

Neil Lennon has been on the lookout for a back-up goalkeeper to Ben Amos and several sources claim he will soon cast an eye over M’Bolhi, who has spent much of his career playing in Bulgaria.

M’Bolhi is best known for his heroics in the 2014 World Cup, where he helped Algeria push eventual champons Germany to extra time in the last 16. To date, he has 41 caps for the North African country.

It is most likely that Wanderers would have to sell or loan out one of their existing players to be in a position to offer a contract.

Meanwhile, Wanderers will not be following up their interest in Carlisle defender Courtney Meppen-Walker.

The former Manchester City trainee had a brief trial at Euxton last week but has now returned to Cumbria at the request of manager Keith Curle.

Lennon wanted to take a closer look at the 22-year-old defender over the next few weeks but the League Two side refused his request, asking for the club to sign up to an official loan deal.

“Bolton asked to extend their period of looking at him and that’s been rejected,” Curle said.

“I think they’ve had an opportunity to look at him, and now the ball’s been put back in their court. If they want to have a look at him further they need to take him on loan.”

Meppen-Walter has not featured for Carlisle at all this season and while Lennon is expected to keep tabs on him in the short term, he admitted on Tuesday night that a loan deal was unlikely.

“He’s gone back to Carlisle, so I’m not sure where we are at with that one,” he said. “If we do it’ll be a loan but I’m not sure we want to do that at the minute.”
