BREIGHTMET United boss Paul Roberts is urging his new side to keep their feet on the ground despite sitting top of Manchester Football League Division One.

The Back Bury Road club ensured a positive start to the 2015-16 campaign with Saturday's 4-2 win against Westbury adding to another impressive 2-0 victory against Wilmslow.

Despite being the early pace-setters boss Roberts just wants to take it a game at a time.

He said: "We are only two games in and had some good performances but I am a new manager to this league and don't know a lot about the other teams in the league.

"There is a lot of caution and we are going to build on our win and I am delighted we are keeping the ball well.

"Our team is coming together as we only got everyone together in pre-season and we are trying to mould them together.

"It would be really easy for us to get excited about our position but it is my goal to keep them focused.

"I am happy with how things have gone but need to keep our feet on the ground."

Breightmet should have taken then lead early on when a bullet-header from a corner was heading into the net but the Westbury keeper pulled off an outstanding save.

Chances continued to come the visitors way and they broke the deadlock when some good play in midfield by Osman Karakan put Dominic Taylor through one-on-one and he coolly lifted the ball over the keeper.

They doubled their lead mid-way through the first half when a ball split the Westbury defence and striker Jason Brookes fired home.

Breightmet went in 3-0 up at the break after one of the goals of the game.

Dean Bancks picked up the ball in the middle of the park and a left-footed shot from outside the penalty area went across the keeper and sailed into the top right-hand corner of the net.

The visitors continued where they left off in the first half by the time Gary McShane got on the scoresheet early in the second half.

His goal was a carbon-copy to Taylor's earlier effort with a cool finish.

Manager Roberts said: "We thought we were coasting and played with confidence.

"But the problem with that was that everyone wanted to get in on the action and scoring goals.

"Our full-backs kept pushing on and we were made to pay for it.

"In the last 10 minutes we allowed our opponents to get a couple of consolation goals.

"Westbury worked hard during the game and I thought they deserved the couple of goals.

"We had a chat as a team afterwards and realised we should not have conceded and will learn from it."

Roberts believes there were some impressive performances in the display.

He said: "I moved our centre-back Osman Karakan into midfield and I think he had a great game.

"Then Gary McShane and Jason Brookes came up from the reserves and did a great job.

"Tom Williams played on the left and he was given the man-of-the-match by Westbury and I am not going to argue with them."

Breightmet are on their travels again on Saturday when they take on Hollinwood with a 3pm kick-off.
