HORWICH RMI Harriers were again represented at the Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay based in the mountains around Patterdale in the Lake District.

Paul Massey and Andy Ford kicked off proceedings finishing in 24th place in a time of 44mins 38secs for the 6.7km leg with 440m of climb from Patterdale over Angletarn Pikes to Hartsop.

The second leg saw the crack pairing of Chris Farrell and Nick Leigh move up to 11th place with a time of 66:25 over 11km with 890m of ascent from Hartsop over High Street and Caudale Moor to finish at Kirkstone Inn where they handed over to Joe Mercer and James Kevan.

They ran the 7.5km route with 570m ascent over Red Screes and Hart Crag to Sykeside in 56:17 and handed over to Jonathan Bruton and Mick Green in 14th place.

The final pairing completed the 11km final leg with 900m of climb over Fairfield and St Sunday Crag in 96:09 for a final position of 21st.

Saturday sees the club's first venture into the Manchester and District Cross Country League.

As reigning Great Manchester county champions the club has decided to compete in both the North West's most competitive leagues.
