A SIX-strong contingent of young local fighters lit up the ring in Bolton Thai Boxing Club’s annual show at the Holiday Inn.

The hotel in Bolton town centre staged 15 fights, organised by the club’s founder and trainer Sandy Holt.

There was disappointment for Jamie Scott, aged 14, who missed out on claiming the vacant 52k English title after he lost on points to Aiden Foster, of County Durham.

Kieran Ryan, aged 25, was also on the wrong end of a narrow decision after five rounds, although he put in a fine display in his first competitive bout.

Teenager Luke Boardman and Nathan Levis both upset the odds, however, to win their fights on points.

Boardman, aged 17, got the better of his 24-year-old opponent, while Levis, aged 24, gave away four kilos to his rival from Stockport but claimed victory in what Holt described as the best fight of the night.

Eight-year-old Brandon McGuffie opened the show with a demonstration three-round bout, while Aaron Khan, also eight, fought the full five rounds with an opponent from County Durham to earn a draw.
