BOLTON Ladies' 1st XI got their first win of the season in a bottom-of-the-table clash with Morpeth.

The 4-2 success was enough to lift them to level on points with their opponents but not sufficient to lift them off the foot of the North League Division One.

The game started badly for the local ladies who went behind early on at Harper Green School.

But goals from June Fenton and Claire Wilson saw the lead quickly change hands.

Fenton's equaliser came after great work from Lisa Hirst, with Wilson converting a short corner routine.

Bolton suffered a setback when they felt they were unlucky to concede a penalty stroke just before half time which Morpeth duly converted.

But they did not dwell on their perceived misfortune after the interval, immediately going ahead when Katy Benty flicked a short corner routine into the top left corner.

Player-of-the match Sian Godwyn maintained the lead with some spectacular saves before Hirst secured the win following a dazzling run by Yasmin Aldcroft.

There was just no separating Bolton men's 1st XI and Saturday's opponents South Lakes.

The two teams fought out a 1-1 draw which left them one place apart on the same points in North West League Division Three North.

Predictably, the game was even until the first chance of note fell to visitors Bolton on 20 minutes when James Robinson broke down the right, skilfully beating his defender before squaring to ball to Damian Pearse whose effort was brilliantly tipped wide by the goalkeeper.

The home side applied their first pressure of the match as half time approached but never managed to threaten Matthew Gaskell in the Bolton goal.

The second half continued much in the same vein and the first half until the deadlock was finally broken by South Lakes.

Bolton began to push for an equaliser dominating the possession and with five minutes to go Andrew Ackroyd missed a glorious chance at the back post. Then with six seconds remaining James Robinson found himself in the South Lakes D, took on both his defender and goalkeeper before walking the ball into the goal.

Bolton Men's 2nd XI kept their unbeaten record intact in fine style when they thrashed Wigan 2nd XI 5-0 at home.

The local lads are second in North West League Division North Five North/South, two points behind Didsbury Northern Men's 5th XI.

They took the lead early with a well-worked short corner routine converted by Phil Johnston.

The home team continued to dominate and created several chances that the Wigan keeper did well to keep out.

Persistence from Bolton though allowed striker Adam Anwar to double the lead with a simple tap-in on the back post.

Bolton stepped up the tempo before half time and Rob Davies beat two players before hammering home a shot into the bottom corner, and Anwar scored his second and Bolton's fourth just before the break.

Bolton cruised through the second half and created more chances but only one beat the Wigan defence when Rob Davies struck from the middle of the area.

Bolton ensured they kept their fourth clean sheet and their record of not conceding at home so far this season with saves from keeper Tom Brants and a short corner clearance from defender Sean McGovern.

Bolton 3rd XI are third bottom of North West League Division Five North/South after losing two games by the same 2-1 scoreline.

The weekend started well when they took the lead away to Golborne after 20 minutes when Wahid Khan showed silky skills down the left.

He beat a couple of defenders before sliding the ball coolly underneath an advancing keeper.

Bolton went close to getting a second when both Richard Moore and Will Bailey both went close.

And they were made to pay the price when Golborne equalised in the second half and then won the game at the death.

It was the same story 24 hours later when they again took the lead in the first half, veteran Matt Rimmer scoring from a old-school penalty corner routine. Solid work in midfield from Andy Hill and some outstanding goalkeeping by Bailey kept Bolton ahead.

As on the previous day Bolton failed to make most of possession and paid the price when Wigan struck just before the break.

Bolton started the second half brightly and continued to play good hockey.

Reece Jones and Richard Moore were both denied by the Wigan keeper, while at the other end man-of-the-match Bailey kept Bolton level with several stunning saves only to finally be beaten by Wigan's winner with just minutes remaining.
