OLD Boltonians opened up a 10-point gap at the top of the Lancashire Amateur League with a 6-1 victory against Old Mancunians.

But manager Steve Eccleshare insists nothing is decided by November and they have got to keep their feet on the ground as local rivals Little Lever are breathing down their necks in second.

He said: "We just need to keep working hard on what we are doing.

"It will not stop until the final whistle of the season and it is another game that we played and won then we forget about it.

"Sean (Rushton) was talking about his goals tally but I told him he needs to keep going and they will get their rewards at the end of the season.

"But looking back it was a good day at the office especially with the weather problems and extending our lead.

"I would rather have the points in the bank as the pressure will be on the other teams to win.

"The win gives us a bit of breathing space and allows us to play with more composed football and get goals.

"When you look at our stats from last season we are better than we were at the same stage."

Eccleshare admitted the playing surface helped them to express themselves well.

After 20 minutes of going toe-to-toe Lee Worswick broke down the right-flank and crossed to the back post where Sean Rushton nodded the ball home.

Just before the break they doubled their advantage with a carbon copy of their first except Worswick crossed from the left and Rushton rose to make it 2-0.

The hosts pulled one goal back on 55 minutes then Old Bolts responded to restore the two-goal cushion as Worswick put a tackle in before releasing Matt McLellan.

Despite the on-rushing Old Mancs keeper, McLellan dinked it into the net for a composed finish for 3-1.

The game was allow to fade out before a moment of madness by the home keeper in the 80th minute.

He tried to throw the ball to his full-back for a counter-attack but Rushton intercepted to fire home.

McLellan doubled his tally for the afternoon with a cool finish and then Jamie Darby made it six after playing a one-two with one of his team-mates and then slotted the ball home.

Eccleshare said: "We have scored 63 goals so far this season and we are only half-way through.

"If we can keep that up then I will be happy.

"Old Mancs played a 3-5-2 formation which was hard to break down as it turned into a five-man defence at times."

Elsewhere, Little Lever and Horwich St Mary's Victoria did not have games due to their matches being postponed.
