ROBERT Pires reckons games against Wanderers and Leeds United were tougher than Manchester United for Arsenal’s Invincibles.
The Gunners are the only side to remain unbeaten through a Premier League season, cruising through the 2003/4 campaign under Arsene Wenger.
But French legend Pires, now 42, says some opponents proved more difficult than others.
“We knew they wanted to destroy us,” he said in an interview with L’Equipe.
“Doing it in England where you keep getting smashed into is an achievement because, contrary to what you think, it’s more difficult against the Leeds or Boltons than against big teams like City or United.”
Wanderers drew 1-1 with Arsenal at the Reebok that season but lost the return game at the Emirates 2-1.
