NEIL Lennon is fully focused on three home points against Brentford on Monday night despite the backdrop of an impending takeover at Wanderers.

The manager has spoken to Whites' financial advisor Trevor Birch this week for an update on investment into the club with owner Eddie Davies looking to secure a sale.

And he says he has been assured the process is progressing, leaving him to concentrate on the task of lifting the team off the bottom of the Championship.

Lennon has no problem with that and is hopeful talks will conclude quickly, particularly after Birch confirmed Davies plans to wipe off the club's debt as part of any takeover.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference yesterday, Lennon said: "I met Trevor on Tuesday and he has kept us in the loop.

"Basically, it’s the same. We are still looking for an investor or investors.

"Hopefully the process will be accelerated. We have to trust the process and let Trevor get on with things.

"I just want to concentrate on winning a game of football and get us out of the trouble we find ourselves in on the field.

"Wiping out the debt is a great gesture by Eddie. He has put so much money into the club over the years.

"On paper it looks to be a good deal. This club is potentially excellent, the infrastructure is good.

"It just needs some TLC and you could have a really good proposition on your hands if you wanted to take over.

"Trevor has not put any boundaries down. He has not tried to pull wool over anyone’s eyes.

"These things can happen very quickly or they could take a matter of weeks or even months.

"He is working very to get in investment in the short term with a view to someone coming in and taking over in the long term.

"As the manager, you are trying to juggle a lot of eggs in one basket.

"But primarily my main focus is on the team.

"We were looking to add to the team but that is not there.

"We have got to work with the players we have.

"We are going to have to develop a siege mentality and keep our cool, stay patient and let Trevor and the process take care of itself.”

Lennon has extra time to work with his squad with the Whites not playing until Monday night at the Macron.

And he says they will train today and tomorrow to get exactly the right preparation for the Bees' visit.

In between, the boss will take the opportunity to watch a game this afternoon and keep tabs on players that may interest him should funds become available again in the January transfer window.

He added: "We will be training in the morning and then me and my staff will go and take in games to look at players.

"We will train Sunday morning as well.

"I am actually really looking forward to the game and I just want the players to be as motivated as possible for the game

"It’s about time we started giving something back to the supporters here."

Matters on and off the field have led to a difficult spell for Lennon whose first home game more than a year ago was against Brentford – a game that ended in a 3-1 triumph.

On the pitch the position remains perilous a year on but the manager admits he has adapted his approach during that time.

He believes he has had to do that to try and instil confidence in his beleaguered team.

Lennon said: "I’m a lot more mellow than when I first arrived.

"I don’t think you can go off at the players or rant and rave when they are in this position.

"You want to get the best out of them and they need plenty of encouragement and confidence.

"I’m a competitor rand always have been – I like to win.

"But this team is in a position where we are struggling to get wins.

"I could rant and rave at them every week but eventually that loses its impact.

"So you have to do things differently at times and again that’s part of learning for me through this periods.

"It is not easy but you are doing it for the greater good."
