AFTER a good performance and great comeback at Molyneux, the pre-match talk in the Fanzone was full of hope of embarking on a decent run and finally having a go at catching the pack and avoiding relegation.

Dan Jeffries had come all the way from Plymouth to entertain us and he did well in what he admitted was his biggest gig to date, against a backdrop of Leicester City stuffing Manchester City on the big screen.

Captain Darren Pratley was brought back in for the unfortunate Liam Trotter and big Emile Heskey added some weight to the attack in place of the promising Kaiyne Woolery.

We got off to a cracking start as Jay Spearing smashed one in from 25 yards. It was just what we needed to calm the nerves – or so we thought.

The goal seemed to spur Rotherham into action and they proceeded to dominate most of the match from there on.

It was no surprise when Chris Burke equalised just before the break.

At half time, legend Gudni Bergsson did the draw. How we wished he could have come on for the second half. He certainly looked fit enough.

We need fighting spirit and we need heroes, and we found one in young Kaiyne Woolery when he drove home the winner in added time after Mark Davies’ shot had been parried.

This lad has got something which has been in short supply at the Macron, i.e. pace – he put in one run which would have tested Usain Bolt!

It’s seven points out of the last nine that Wanderers have now taken in their impressive revival – our best league run of the season.

We’re off the bottom for the first time in months. Is there finally some hope we can get out of this mess?

We have survived the transfer window with our best players still with us. We can forget the financial problems for a few months and concentrate on the football, as I don’t think anything will happen before the summer.

It’s going to require a tremendous effort from the players, especially away from home where we have been awful for most of the season.

But it’s do-able. There are seven other teams within eight points with 16 matches to go.

We’ve got to build on the fighting spirit and give it a go with what we have got.

It’s points not performances that matter in our position. Brighton here we come.
