ONLY four games were played in the the BSF Over-35s Football League on Sunday.

All the games were played on 3G pitches with Cheers Bar and Queen Lizzy at home in Division One, while Breightmet United A switched their Division Two game against Bolton Lads and Girls to play on BLGC’s new pitch and Old Boltonians reversed their game against Ashtonians Vets and played on 3G at Leigh High School.

Mitchells Unicorn climbed to second place, just a point behind Division One leaders Moorside Rangers with a game in hand, with victory against Cheers Bar.

John Coogan scored for the home team while Carl Stretton and Jon Palmer earned the points for Mitchells.

Queen Lizzy moved up to third in the table, two points off the lead, but they have played eleven games, more than any other in the Division. They beat North Walkden 3-0 with Lee Whiteley scoring a brace and Gaz Turnup the other.

It proved to be a good day in Division Two for the teams that reversed their fixtures with both Old Boltonians and Breightmet United A recording convincing wins.

Breightmet went second, four points behind leaders Barr Hill Priory, but with two games in hand, as they beat BLGC 4-1. Allen Mitchell scored for BLGC, but two from Andrew Buckley and one each from Damien Smith and Gerian Morris gave Breightmet the points.

Old Boltonians had a (3G) field day when they thrashed Ashtonians 7-1 with two goals from Paul Berry and one each from Paul Seddon, Richard Stokes, Paul Finch, Ivan Crompton and Owen.

The draw was made at last week’s committee meeting for the semi-finals of the Divisional Cups, but six of the quarter final games have still to be played and these are now scheduled for Sunday, February 21.
