LAST week I outlined our girls' football plans, which is on top of our coach and referee development, our much-publicised plans for summer football, our plans to grow the under-21s football and, if that wasn't enough, now I want to discuss our plans to build a futsal league programme.

This will run on a Sunday to start with but further days may be brought in once it starts to get a foothold

Futsal is a wonderful form of the game and if you check out the sports channels or the internet you will find that the Euro Futsal 2016 Championships are currently taking place in Serbia up to February 13.

If you want to know what this sport is about, have a look at some of these games as you will be amazed at some of the skills on show.

Futsal has no offsides, is five-a-side and subs are made as the game is ongoing with one stepping off as the other steps on.

There are no throw-ins as the ball is kicked in and they certainly don't play off the boards, like they do in traditional British five-a-side.

The ball is weighted to keep it predominantly on the floor and there is a four-second rule in which all kick-ins, balls in the hands of the keeper and corners must be taken within four seconds.

These and other rules help enable a very fast-paced, skill-orientated game which draws the very best out of the player.

The BBDFL is looking to commence a league which in year one will provide places for 12 teams at U7s, U8s, U9s, U10s, U11s, U12s, U13s and U14s.

This will mean that 96 teams will have the opportunity to enter a dedicated futsal league programme – the first of its kind in the BBDFL.

This is another exciting start to a sport which will give youngsters in this area the very best opportunities to excel in a game which could help draw out our very own local equivalent to Lionel Messi.
