THREE junior Bolton United Harriers claimed personal best times at the Northern Athletics Indoor Championships in Sheffield.

Julia Winogrodzka narrowly missed out on a silver medal when she competed in her first regional championships for the Under-13s.

A nervous start in the high jump saw her fail at 1.25m but subsequently clear the height and go over 1.30m to equal her personal best against many girls 12 months her senior.

In only her third high jump contest, this clearance was enough to claim bronze.

Winogrodzka also competed in her favoured long jump event. Having recently set a new club record, she broke it again by leaping 4.53m.

She held the lead until the last round, but second place was a silver lining for the 11-year-old.

Finally she competed in the 60m, where the future heptathlete breezed through the heat in 9.01secs, but tired legs meant a third-place finish in the semi-final despite dipping under nine seconds (8.99s).

For the u15s, brother and sister Kehinde and Taiwo Taiwo put sibling rivalry to one side when they took part in the 60m.

In his first championships, Kehinde showed no nerves in his heat, finishing second with a new personal best time of 7.87.

He also finished second in a strong semi-final field in 7.88 to make it through to his first major final, where he finished fourth in 7.92.

Despite struggling with a hip injury, sister Taiwo showed her class to dominate her heat and clinch the win in 8.21.

In the semi-final she held her style fantastically and gained an automatic qualifying place for the final, finishing second with a new personal best of 8.18.

The final was a close-run affair and despite a poor start, her 8.22 showed great consistency as she claimed a creditable sixth-placed finish.

Ken Fowler took on the Red Hot Toddy 10k, held in aid of the flood disaster in Todmorden. He clocked 47:11 as the first M60 home, while Cherry Collison ran 50:23 for 26th in the Winter Warmer 10k at Blackburn.
