ROB Holding will not let personal triumph at Wanderers go to his head.

By his own reckoning, the 20-year-old defender thought a “couple of first-team games” would have been a reasonable target at the start of the season.

Instead, he swept every award going, including The Bolton News’ player of the year, and has been checked out by England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate.

Wanderers took up a 12-month option to extend Holding’s contract this week and the Tameside defender is only too happy to stay at the Macron.

“I look at it as another year of learning,” he told The Bolton News. “All the awards, all the pats on the back have been great. I am really thankful to people for supporting me.

“But this is my club and the chance to stay here next season and help it be successful – I couldn’t ask for anything else, really.”

Holding also revealed he had no idea about being scouted for England Under-21s until minutes before kick-off against Hull City last weekend.

“I got interviewed for Sky and I honestly didn’t know,” he said. “It was just one more person to impress.

“If it comes to something, of course it would be a massive honour. But I have plenty of time for that sort of thing.”
