VICTORY in the u12 Chairman's Cup completed an historic treble for FC Strikerz.

Having already won the prestigious Lancashire Cup and the Bolton and Bury A Section title victory at the Macron completed a hat-trick of trophies for Strikerz, something no team in the league's junior ranks has completed in decades.

Opponents Walshaw Sports Club finished third in the A section meant a great game was in prospect and it did not disappoint.

Strikerz scored the only goal of the first half when Conor Barker chased down harried the defenders in a mistake from which he capitalised.

Walshaw levelled through Arron Rigby, netting a header from a corner.

With no further goals the game would be decided on penalties, which ended 3-3 after each team had had their five.

Sudden death followed and, at 8-8, Strikerz keeper Jake Parrisons saved, leaving Sam Smedley to put away his penalty for a 9-8 win.

Manager Andy Mason said: "I must pay tribute to the opposition for a great game. To achieve such a treble at any standard of football is some achievement and to do it in these three competitions is truly something very special."
