PHIL Parkinson is encouraged his own plans for recruitment at Wanderers are shared by the club’s ownership.

Talks have already begun with at least three potential new signings in the hope the transfer embargo will be lifted, as planned, at the start of next month.

Several names were put forward to the new manager by Ken Anderson and Dean Holdsworth during the process of bringing him to the Macron Stadium from Bradford City.

It is believed Wanderers want at least two new strikers and are also keen to bring in players who have experience of success at League One level.

Parkinson is keen to put his own stamp on the squad and has brought his own ideas to the table – but he is happy to report that the co-owners are on the same page.

“They have offered advice and to be honest we have pooled it all together,” he told The Bolton News. “It would be crazy not to listen to what their thoughts are but, of course, I have my own ideas.

“The good thing for me is that my thinking is not far away from those of the owners, so I am confident we can get to where we want to be.”

Changes to the loan rules in the Football League will also affect plans for recruitment at clubs across the land this summer.

Whereas emergency loans have been used regularly to plug short-term gaps in squads for injuries and the like, FIFA’s decision to remove them completely means managers will now have to take players from window to window.

As a result, Parkinson is concentrating solely on getting his own first-team squad right before looking to bring in any younger players from higher divisions for experience.

“Ideally I would want my own core of players but I have got my eye on supplementing that with one or two quality six-month or year-long loan players if they are needed,” he said.

“Bolton have had success going down that road before but it isn’t something I want to depend on.

“We want to target our own squad and make sure that is up to scratch before looking to add anything extra with loans. And I think those kind of players tend to take the most time as managers want them to stay during pre-season so they can take a good look at them and use them in the friendly games.”
