ELEVEN-year-old Sean Dobson has become the youngest ever winner of a major competition at Dunscar Golf Club.

The Bolton School boy may also have become the youngest player ever to win a major adult tournament in the whole of the Bolton Golf Association when he triumphed in Dunscar's captains day board major competition.

Dunscar, which was formed in 1908, has allowed Sean and other selected junior players to compete in the adult men’s competitions for the past year.

He won the captains day board/major competition on Saturday with a score of 81, less a 16 handicap, posting an impressive net 65.

And he was not finished there, following up by winning the captains junior competition the next day.

In the adult competition he scored a gross birdie on the par four 14th hole and in the junior competition he recorded a gross eagle on the par four 17th.

Sean, whose dad Peter has played at Dunscar for more than 30 years and plays off a handicap of six, has been a member of Dunscar for two and a half years and is a product of the club's junior golf program and junior team who were the BGA champions last year.

He has progressed from the club's gold tees – the short tee course – to blues which are for intermediate players, and last year started to play from the gents' competitions tees.

He then broke into the BGA Dunscar junior team and did not lose a game as he helped them win the Bolton Team Championship for the first time in 27 years.

He started this season on 16 handicap which has been reduced to 13.5 (14) after his success at the captain’s weekend.

He has been part of the Lancashire Under-14s development squad and hopes to get his handicap down to single figures and break into the full Lancashire under-14s team by the end of the season.
