PHIL Parkinson praised his “positive” Wanderers after chalking up a pre-season win against York City.

Mark Davies gave the Whites a perfect start, pouncing on a good knockdown from Gary Madine to blast the opening goal from the edge of the area.

Jamie Proctor then doubled the advantage a few minutes before the end with a penalty – this after Mark Howard had saved Scott Fenwick’s spot kick earlier in the half.

Parkinson was happy to see a more upbeat performance than the previous two UK friendlies against Mansfield and Tranmere.

“It was good progress for us,” he told The Bolton News. “I was pleased with the boys last night at Crewe as well because it was a team we’d pieced together against their first team and they came back to get a draw. The mentality among the players is getting stronger.

“Today we were right on the money from the first whistle. We got the goal, passed the ball really well, our shape was better defensively and I thought we were a lot more positive in the final third as well.

“I’ve told the players it’s ok keeping the ball but when we get it in the final third lets drive at people, lets commit defenders.

“We had to learn from the Mansfield game last week. There was a determination about us, we were committed and that is very pleasing. I want to see more of it.”

The only downside to the game was that Zach Clough and trialist Frazer Richardson limped off with injuries.

Parkinson hopes neither injury is serious, confirming that Clough’s hamstring had tightened and that Richardson had tweaked his knee ligaments.

Danny Collins, the former Stoke City and Nottingham Forest defender, also appeared as a second-half substitute.
