WANDERERS are keeping their fingers crossed that a hamstring injury to Zach Clough does not rule him out for the start of the season.

The talismanic striker limped out of Saturday’s 2-0 win at York City with a tight hamstring and is unlikely to be risked in the friendly against Burnley tomorrow night.

“Cloughy felt his hamstring pull but hopefully it won’t be too bad,” manager Phil Parkinson told The Bolton News. “It’s a shame because he started the game well and looked dangerous on the ball, dropping off into the space behind the strikers. We certainly hope it won’t keep him out for long.”

With just 12 days to go before the League One campaign begins against Sheffield United, Parkinson admits his squad is still a work in progress.

Saturday’s team had three trialists – including ex-Nottingham Forest and Sunderland defender Danny Collins.

Another, Frazer Richardson, picked up a knee injury after an impressive start in the first half.

“Frazer just opened up his medial ligament, which is a shame because he was playing great,” Parkinson said. “It’s unfortunate but we’ll have to assess him.

“Frazer is a player I know already because I managed him before at Charlton, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it isn’t a serious one.”

David Wheater had been due to start the game at York and Gordon Greer – who had been on trial for the last week – played for Blackburn in their friendly draw with Blackpool.

“David had a personal issue to deal with,” Parkinson explained. “We’d planned to have a better look at Gordon in this game but he went to Blackburn, and that’s what happens I suppose.”
