BURNDEN’S ladies dominated the Horwich Jubilee Series at Rivington yet again.

The trio of Lyndsay Darbyshire, Vicki Hamer and Anne Ferguson picked up the team prize in the fourth and final five-mile race to complete a clean sweep of all four titles and the series team title too.

Darbyshire was second L45 in 35mins 56secs in the final race, with Hamer following in 38:19 and Ferguson close behind with her time of 38:21 earning her the L55 prize.

Lee White was the first member to complete the course in race four, 16th overall and first V40 in 31:35 with George Butler next, third U20 in 33:28.

Adrian Merritt was second V40 in 34:34 and these three times, along with Steve Bate’s 37:22, took the men’s team to fourth place on the night.

Other notable category successes included Mel Walker who was first V70 in 38:56 as he continued his comeback from injury, Paul Christie who secured second V60 in 37:43, Rebecca Wensley second L35 in 38:33 and Jeff Pendlebury, third V55 in 43:03.

Mark Butler (37:46), Jenna Leeks (47:52) and Kierenne Baldwin (49:55) completed the Burnden turnout.

Darbyshire ended the series in second place overall and also second in the vets’ standings. Anne was seventh overall and sixth in the vets.

Lee finished the series in ninth place overall and fifth in the vets’ rankings, while the club have three more members in the men’s top 20 overall – Adrian (15th), Keith Thomas (16th) and Steve Bate (20th).

Lesley Fisher and Don Nichol both won their categories in the Darwen Gala Fell Race, a 4.7-mile test with nearly 1,000ft of climb.

Fisher was the second female finisher overall and first F55 in 43:48 with Nichol first M60 in 49:34.

Iain Conner covered the course in 53:16, closely followed by Neil Critchley (55:40) and Dave Pearson (59:18).

Paul Duke finished 17th overall in the Riverside Half Marathon at Lancaster 1:30:03 with Julie Newton recording a time of 2:03:42.

Four members took on the Pendle Three Peaks Race fell race.

The 9.8-mile route with 2,800ft of ascent takes in the three toughest climbs in the area – Mearley Moor, Scout Cairn and Pendle Hill.

Martyn Pollitt was quickest in 1:47:28 just ahead of Marcus Taylor in 1:56:43. Anne Ferguson was second F55 in 2:01:41 and Isaline Pollitt followed her home in 2:06:21.
