TEAM GB's talent spotters have kept a close eye on the fortunes of Bolton Metro Swim Squad's young members in this year's national competitions and three have been rewarded with call-ups to training programmes.

Jake Reynolds, aged 12, has been invited to attend the England Talent Regional Development Programme, where he will be given strength and conditioning training as well as sessions in the pool.

While Isaac Brennand and Gabriel Glynn, both aged 13, will attend the England programme development days, where they will be given extra technique training, and also profiled to assess their future potential.

Both swimmers have also been selected for the Lancashire county squad.

Only a small percentage of young athletes are asked to attend the sessions each year and head coach Mike Robinson believes the call-ups are a deserved reward for a season of hard work and determination.

“It has been a great summer and we are so proud of all the swimmers who reached the elite competitions," said Robinson.

"We are also delighted our youngsters have been invited to attend programmes designed for the British swimming stars of the future.

"They work very hard and this is a real achievement.

"Our squad is very focused – from the youngest nine-year-olds in the development groups to the athletes in our performance team, everyone is striving to achieve their potential.

"We are looking forward to the new season and we’re hoping to get even more swimmers ready for the major events next year."

The hat-trick of England invitations follow Bolton Metro’s strong showing at the two big summer championships – the ASA British summer championships and the ASA summer meet for top English swimmers.

BMSS had 11 swimmers take part from the club – an impressive number for a small squad.

Emily Barclay ended her career as a Bolton Metro swimmer on a high, gaining bronze in the 50m butterfly open final at the ASA national summer championships.

It is the seventh time Emily has qualified for this elite competition, having swum for Bolton for 10 years.

She is now heading off to do a sports science degree and swim for Loughborough while she studies.

James Morrison and Brennand also qualified for the finals in their events. Morrison narrowly missed a medal, finishing fourth in the men’s 17yr 400m freestyle.
