YOUNG cyclists got their Bolton club off to a flying start to the new league season.

A healthy total of 28 members of Bolton Hot Wheels took part in the first round of the North West CycloCross Association (NWCCA) League.

Three raced to podium positions including two first places at Hoghton Tower, an impressive setting for racing and a challenging course which featured changes in surfaces from grass and mud to tarmac and gravel, and pockets of mud that took skill and effort to ride through.

Benjamin Peatfield won a highly competitive under-14s category and Isaac Peatield took first place in the u16s.

Peatfield is a member of Bolton Hot Wheels but raced for the Green Jersey-sponsored team at the event.

Felix Cuerden finished second in the u10s, narrowly missing out on first.

The number of cyclists representing the club demonstrated Bolton Hot Wheels' strong grassroots base with the club represented in the u8s, u10s, u12s, u14s and u16s age categories and seven parents and a coach also racing in the senior categories.

Considering the start of the season means many riders moved up to an older age category, all the riders attacked the races well and showed great improvement.
