RISING Bury tennis star Olivia Peet has been picked for the British under-18s squad after finishing runner-up at the recent national championships.

The 16-year-old, from Greenmount, lost in the final of the 16U British Junior Championships in Nottingham and reached the quarter-finals of the 18U event.

Her performances did not go unnoticed and a call-up to the Great Britain team followed.

She was scheduled to compete for the GB squad this month at the national tennis centre in Roehampton, but while that tournament has since been postponed she is now due to make her international bow later in the season.

Peet, who will also represent Lancashire's senior ladies team in Division One of the prestigious county week at Eastbourne next year, competed in 15 matches in total over five days at the national championships.

She also reached three consecutive semi-finals in British tour events over the summer, helping to boost her national ranking to eighth in her age group.

Over the next six weeks, the teenager will compete in two 10K events – for players who are starting out on the WTA professional tour.
