WANDERERS have handed Josh Vela a new two-year contract.

Chairman Ken Anderson was happy to tie down the Salford-born 22-year-old to a longer deal and is also believed to be in negotiations with Zach Clough about his future at Bolton.

“It is very important to reward our young talent and I’m delighted that Josh has committed his future to Bolton Wanderers,” he said. “He is a key member of our squad and is crucial to our plans as we go forward.”

Phil Parkinson was delighted to announce the home-grown midfielder, who has been at the club since the age of nine, has secured his future to the Macron.

“I’m very pleased that Josh has signed this new contract,” he said. “He is a good young player and we want to keep our best players. Josh is someone who is going to keep improving and we want him to grow with the club.”

Vela has made 91 senior appearances for the Whites and a further seven on loan at Notts County, meaning he could rack up a century in the next seven days against either Blackpool in the Checkatrade Trophy or Swindon Town next weekend.
