BOLTON at Home Sunday League’s match of the day came in the League Cup Division One between the division's top two – Astley Bridge Elite and Queen Anne.

Gaz Cuniff struck first for second-placed Queen Anne before they found themselves 3-1 down following a rapid recovery from leaders Astley Bridge.

It was a thrilling end-to-end encounter and a great advert for Sunday League football.

Queen Anne clawed their way back to 3-2 thanks to Tom Halligan's goal just before half time.

After the break Astley Bridge raced further ahead through Darren Smethurst’s second goal, ensuring a commanding 4-2 margin,

But Dean Walmsley’s boys were not finished. Their captain and distinguished leader Paul (Monk) Hatton rallied with a bullet-like header that lifted Queen Anne.

Nial Callaghan equalised before sensationally snatching a last-minute winner to put Queen Anne through to the quarter-finals.

In the day’s other League Cup Division One tie another thrilling encounter saw Top Club edge out Hulton Wanderers 3-2.

Top Club went ahead through Travis Vaughn but Hulton Wanderers clawed their way back to go in 2-1 leaders at half time.

Ten minutes into the second half, a calamitous own goal by Johnny Sankey gifted the equaliser to Top Club and Jordan Deane grabbed what proved to be the winner 20 minutes from time.

Wanderers had what they thought to be a stonewall penalty turned down in the dying seconds.

Bridge Celtic’s red-hot striker Greg Travers notched a first-half hat-trick as they raced towards a 3-1 interval lead against Bradford Arms in Division One, Ashworth replying for the visitors. Bradford Arms came storming back in the second half and produced an amazing comeback with goals from Littlewood, Fielding and Jackson snatching a sensational victory in another enthralling clash.

Great Lever Taskers played some sublime football as they ran out convincing winners against Southside who, to their credit, never gave up trying to compete in the other Division One game.

Great Lever, though, were too slick and won convincingly 7-0 thanks to goals from prolific scorer Arron McCarthy (two), Mark Ridings (two), Cristiano Cankalis, Kristian Preston and Jason Perry.

D Havilland continued their incredible revival by holding a strongly-fancied Farnworth United to a 2-2 draw, Jon Stevenson and Gaz Bentley on the scoresheet for Farnworth.

FC Westhoughton continue to set the pace at the top of Division Two following a resounding 6-2 victory over Newbury with goals from Dorken (three), Howarth, Eccleshare and Hughes.

Manny Road remain hot on the heels of the leaders after a resounding 6-1 win against Church Reds FC.
