BOLTON Olympic Wrestling Club have been on the medal trail at two big tournaments north and south of the border.

The club's young wrestlers have done the town proud, winning a combined tally of more than 20 medals at the Tryst Open in Mortherwell and the Derbyshire Open.

Nathan Livesey, Cameron Leader, Harry Meadows and Mia Kipling all claimed gold in Scotland.

They were the leading lights in a young team of seven, who all came home from the Tryst Open with a medal.

The performance levels were cranked up even further at the Derbyshire Open, when a 15-strong team brought home seven gold medals, seven silvers and one bronze.

Livesey and Leader again claimed golds, as did Abdullah Hussein, Jack Costello, Tommy Costello, Liam Husband and Grace Costello in their respective age groups and weight divisions.

Coach Lee Meadows said: “I was really impressed by the level that all of our wrestlers competed at.

"To bring back to Bolton as many medals as we have done in recent weeks, reflects directly on all the dedication, hard work and commitment that these youngsters put into their training."

Fellow Bolton Olympic coach Jesse Bradbury joined the teams in Derbyshire.

She believes the Open success was the perfect preparation for the British Championships, which the club will jointly host with neighbours Sharples Wrestling Club in the town.

“These two competitions produced some amazing results and are fantastic preparation for the upcoming British championships in November," said Bradbury.

"The event is being held in Bolton, and will be hosted by Bolton Olympic Wrestling Club and Sharples, which is a very great honour for the club."
