DAVID Wheater has revealed how he and a group of ex-Wanderers players are rallying round in support of former team-mate Ivan Klasnic.
The big defender dedicated his first goal of the season to the Croatian in midweek, revealing a specially-printed T-shirt for the occasion.
Klasnic was rushed into hospital a fortnight ago after his transplanted kidney failed and was in critical condition. It is understood he has now been allowed to leave 24-hour medical supervision and the 36-year-old was pictured on Tuesday night at a corporate event at his former club Werder Bremen but remains in need of a kidney transplant.
“I heard he’s still waiting for the kidney but it could be a long wait for him,” Wheater said. “Stu Holden started a chat group up with some of the old players, Robbo (Paul Robinson) and Blakey (Robbie Blake) and that to see what we could do for him. Keep his spirits up.
“I think there’s only me, Sparky, maybe Prats who played with him in the current squad – so the T-shirt was just to say we’re thinking of him. I’ve had it on for a while now, so it’s nice to take it off. It’s a bit sweaty.”
