WANDERERS fans have been told they can expect plenty more “magic moments” from Sammy Ameobi – if he’s allowed to make mistakes.

Phil Parkinson believes his on-loan winger is starting to find his feet at the Macron, backed by an ever-growing fan club on the terraces.

Ameobi has come into his own in the last couple of games for the Whites, scoring a sensational opener at Millwall and producing few moments of crowd-pleasing skill in the win against Oldham last weekend.

Parkinson is encouraging the Newcastle United star to try “the unexpected” and believes his stronger work-rate on the pitch is proof he is enjoying his time at Bolton.

“With Sammy it’s not a lack of desire to produce, it’s a matter of confidence he can do it on a week-to-week basis,” he told The Bolton News.

“We knew when we brought him in it would be a process of getting him believing in himself. Getting him to try something a bit different, a bit more unexpected, in the final third.

“The goal against Millwall was outstanding. Top drawer. And there were some great moments from him against Oldham too. Yes, he should have scored when he was clean through but he didn’t let it get him down.

“His attitude in training since he has been here has been outstanding. Spot on.

“He knows this is a big move for him. I feel the supporters are gradually getting behind him, which is good, and he needs it. All players like Sammy need to feel they can try things and if they don’t come off they don’t want to worry about doing it next time.

“They need confidence and I think our fans have started to see now what he is capable of doing.”
