Whites want Liverpool ace Cisse

SAMMY Lee wants Djibril Cisse to link up with Nicolas Anelka, El-Hadji Diouf and Kevin Davies in an all-out attack on the Premiership and UEFA Cup.

The Wanderers boss is ready to pay around £6million for the Liverpool striker but, contrary to reports, he is not preparing to sell either Anelka or Diouf.

Instead, he wants the trio of strikers - all with strong Anfield connections - to work together to make his new-look Wanderers one of the most potent attacking units in the country.

Talks between Wanderers and Liverpool have been going on for weeks since Cisse ended a successful loan stint with Marseille, who qualified for the Champions League by finishing runners-up in France's Ligue One last season.

Marseille had the option of converting the loan into a permanent deal, but have been unable to match Liverpool's valuation.

Wanderers have refused to comment on repeated speculation linking them with a swoop for Cisse, but they are understood to be trying to work out the same sort of arrangement that brought El-Hadji Diouf from Anfield to the Reebok three summers ago, initially on a season-long loan, which was made permanent for a fee of around £4m.

Cisse, who became Liverpool's £14m record signing when previous manager, Gerard Houllier, bought him from Auxerre in July 2004, has two years still to run on his Anfield contract. But he is resigned to moving on after Reds' boss Rafa Benitez made it clear he was not in his plans.

Lee is expected to adopt a 4-4-2 formation rather than the 4-3-3/4-5-1 system, which was employed by Sam Allardyce, and believes Diouf and Cisse, who are both capable of operating in wide roles as well as central strikers, can be key factors in the style switch.

It is undoubtedly a mouth-watering prospect: the pacy and prolific Cisse harnessed alongside the talents of Diouf and Anelka, who almost became a permanent fixture at Liverpool in 2002 after an impressive loan spell, with the powerful Davies adding a combative edge.

Despite Benitez seeing no future for Cisse at Anfield, Liverpool are determined to get the best possible price for the player once rated one of the top strikers in Europe. And, with other clubs still interested - Marseille still cannot be ruled out - they are in no rush to do a deal.

Cisse's pedigree and goals-per-game ratio - 119 in 250 club appearances plus 10 in 29 internationals for France - makes him still a marketable commodity, despite the well-documented injury problems that have plagued him in recent years.

He broke his left leg in a freak accident at Blackburn in October 2004, just three months after joining Liverpool, and in June 2006, he broke his right leg playing for France in a World Cup warm-up game.

Both were horrific injuries but, in each case, he showed great character and determination to not only regain full fitness but to continue scoring goals - 14 in 23 games was a major contribution to Marseille's re-emergence as a major force in France last season.

Buy him please. A signing like this one would do wonders for the club, it will show we are moving in the right direction. A couple of French strikers, why not link them up with a French playmaker like Giuly for only £1.5 million. The makings of a great team.

Cisse would be a fantastic signing, but I'm not sure either he nor Diouf could play as wingers, I think they would be brilliant in 4-3-3. Its said that Lee wants to play 4-4-2 and this would worry me. The whole squad is set up to play 4-5-1/4-3-3. Big Sam made us very awkward to play against and although at times we need to be more flexible, i would be worried if we had a complete change of style.

i would disagree.

sam set up the defensive unit as awkward to play against, but the attack, ie diouf/anelka/davies, were very central. a bit of width from diouf occasionally saw some great goals, good movement and Cisse would definately compliment the trio as they are now! playing 4-3-2-1 would be my preference, with cisse anelka forward, and diouf behind, but flexibility to swap positions and to cover each other when they do somethinf individual and creative! get Davies in for the rough, tough matches, and to unsettle the defences of the big teams!

14 goals in 23 games!!!!

Make him sign that dotted line sammy

I agree the squad is set up for a 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation especially for away games, it allows us to pack the midfield and still have the quality to hit on the break. I wouldnt be against Sammy changing it to a 4-4-2 but it should be gradual as the squad evolves rather than just rapidly changing the style, so he can put his own mark on the team.

I would be over the moon for this one.

Nick in with a £2m bid for Sharp too

I think it is more likely we would go for Freddie Eastwood than Billy Sharp, heard the rumour the other day, along with John o Shea.

Brum are signing that Scot O'Connor from Lokomotiv. £2.5m is decent money.

Let's hope Lil'Sam is saving for Cisse

O'Connor is an average player at best, Championship at best I think

Seems decent in Europe for Lokomotiv, and banging the goals in for Jockland.

Same money for him as Benni McCarthy............

Just been on Scarborough FC Website .Its heart breaking it shows the clubs crest,a gull standing on a Football
with a teardrop in its eye.
At the top it simply says.
R.I.P Scarborough FC.
I remember their first three games at home in the Football League, Wolves ,BOLTON,and Burnley.
We dont know how lucky we are.
I dont care who we sign.
COME ON YOU WHITEMEN!

People would have said that about Doyle a year ago. 3 years ago he was Irish league at best, sometimes players just need the platform. If his name was a bit more continental you would probably like give hima chance.

Agree with your sentiments Gordon- its a great pity the Seadogs have bit the dust.Makes you wonder why the greedy millionaire owners of the premiership couldnt have had a whip round and donated a few grand a piece!

Well said re Scarborough, Mark Patterson was their manager not long ago. What a crying shame to go out of business. I was on holiday there a few years ago and took my daughter's picture in the centre circle! A nice neat little ground, it doesnt seem right that 1 player's annual salary out of the Prem would probably keep them going for a few years.

Cisse would be a great signing for the Wanderers but I'm afraid the fact that this report has come out in the press (again) smacks of desperation by the Wanderers. Am I being cynical or are the Wanderers trying to get those extra season ticket sales in before the early booking deadline next week?

I suppose we do have to be thankful that it's only 1 name that's being hyped up, and not the 21 top class players that Sam Allardyce name drops knowing that he had no chance of signing.

Let's get excited IF we see these new players actually wearing the white shirt.

I've got a feeling that the arrival of a player like Cisse would spell the end for either Diouf or Anelka.......couldn'
t complain with the strikeforce if that happens however, can't see many better forward lines than ours if this transfer comes off.

i have noticed the more remarks being added to this section the more negitive they become. So i think Bolton will get Cisse, Hyypia, Gudjohnsen, Giuly, keep Jussi, Anelka, Diouf. Win the UEFA cup and qualify for the Champions league with Man u getting relegated after Alex Ferguson get found guilty of owning Tevez.

Just for a minute my mouth watered...Anelka, Cisse, Diouf...and Kevin Davies!

LOL, I know we love Kev but there's a certain lack of sparkle in the foursone!

Still, would give us various options up front. Go for it Sammy - but hurry up we can't wait for ever to see who's coming and who isn't.

Let Vaz te go, he's all hot air.

I have just been on Scarboroughs website and it is very sad
R.I.P SCARBOROUGH FC
1879-2007.
I read what Gordon said, their opening 3 games,Wolves ,Bolton and Burnley. They were in the bad old days when all 3 clubs had bad reputations.
Their chairman at the time was mortified with all the aggro.
We have come along way since that 4-0 drubbing.
Anyway I would like to wish Scarborough FC
all the best for the future.

Lots of talk about new signings, new formations, new styles. How about marking the transition by returning to the real Wanderers strip, i.e. navy shorts? I've never seen the point of the all white personally.

Yes lets return to the good old fashioned ways, big boots and long shorts to cover our long balls...played over the top to Anelka
