BLACKROD Town made it three wins on the bounce as they beat Horwich St Marys Victoria 1-0 thanks to a late second-half winner courtesy of Matthew Davis.

The loss was only Horwich’s second of the season in the Premier Division but they remain second behind Failsworth Dynamos who are two points ahead.

Blackrod manager, Jack Paton, applauded the team for the good win and how they have revitalised themselves after a difficult start to the season.

He said: “We started the season confident and although we went off track a bit we’re back to winning and where we want to be. We’re targeting second or third to finish the season.”

Little Lever hit an impressive six past Whitworth Valley. Kyle Bennett, Craig Bingham and Danny Holland scored for Little Lever and Jack Coop cemented the win with a hat-trick.

Elsewhere, Old Boltonians won for the fifth time in a row, putting two goals past third-placed Mostonians with Darren Dalton and Rob Taylor scoring. for a team that has netted an impressive 20 goals in their last five games in all competitions.

The weekend’s results tighten up the league with just six points separating ninth and third.

This weekend Little Lever face Bury GSOB, Horwich St Marys Victoria meet Old Mancunians, Old Boltonians play Tottington United and Blackrod Town are back in action against Tottington in a fortnight.

Bolton Wyresdale take on bottom of the league Chaddertonians as they try to make it four wins out of four in Division One.

In the Manchester League Division One, Bolton County won 3-2 at home against Beechfield United but Breightmet United went down by the same scoreline at Uppermill.
