CHARLTON Athletic have named former MK Dons boss Karl Robinson as their new manager, succeeding Russell Slade who was sacked last week.

Robinson, aged 36, led the Dons for more than six years and, after Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and Exeter’s Paul Tisdale, was the longest-serving manager in the top four divisions. He now becomes the seventh manager under the Addicks’ Belgian owner Roland Duchatelet since he took over at The Valley in January 2014.

Charlton have won their last two games against Port Vale and Bristol Rovers, scoring seven goals and conceding just one.

The Pirates’ 5-1 loss was compounded by a fractured and dislocated elbow to defender Jake Clarke-Salter, meaning a few months on the sidelines for the on-loan Cheslea defender.

Milton Keynes were hoping to bring in Steven Gerrard as their new manager, after initial talks had taken place.

However, the former Liverpool midfielder, who has now announced his retirement as his LA Galaxy stint nears its end, said he felt it was too soon for him to take a manager’s role. Another former England player, Frank Lampard, is also leaving the MLS next month and has ruled himself out of the job at stadium:mk.

Ex-Bury boss Richie Barker remains in temporary charge.

The Whites’ hosts tomorrow, Northampton Town, are at the centre of an investigation into a £10 million ground redevelopment loan from the council, who failed to carry out the necessary checks.

The due diligence checks, carried out after the council’s cabinet agreed to the loan, found the risk of Northampton Town’s failure was “high” and much of the loan is thought to be unaccounted for.

Paul Hurst’s honeymoon period at Shrewsbury is well and truly over. After the former Grimsby manager started at the Greenhous Meadow with 10 points from 12, they lost to Sheffield United last weekend. Hurst felt compelled to apologise for the bottom side’s 3-0 midweek defeat at in-form Fleetwood and is vowing to make wholesale changes in January.

Midfielder Michael Bostwick has become Peterborough’s social media star, after clips of him picking out an inch-perfect pass went viral.

The Posh wore their luminous yellow away strip at Northampton and Bostwick’s pass to the left was ideally placed – for the hi-vis jacket-wearing steward patrolling the touchline.

Port Vale midfielder Anthony Grant has been handed an additional five-game ban on top of the one he received for his two yellow cards against Fleetwood.

Grant returned to the field after full time to make his feelings known to referee John Brooks and, on top of a £2,000 fine, he is now banned until Boxing Day.

Oldham Athletic have been placed under a transfer embargo, although chairman Simon Corney says he expects the £300,000 in outstanding bills to be paid and the embargo lifted before January.
