BURNDEN claimed a superb silver medal at the British Masters Cross Country Relay Championships on Saturday.

The team of ladies’ captain Gwen Kinloch, Anne Ferguson and Lesley Fisher put in a great performance against fierce competition to take second place in the L55 category at Long Eaton, Derbyshire.

Kinloch covered the 3k course in 13mins 35secs, handing over to Ferguson who registered a time of 14:02. Fisher brought the team home in 13:12 for a total time of 40:49.

The men’s V45 team battled to 12th place in their category with a total time of 1:04:09. Stew Jones ran the first leg in 12:50, followed by Marcus Taylor (11:51), Colin Rigby (11:37) and Andy Warburton (14:40). Paul Christie completed the last leg in 13:11.

The club registered several successes at the 13 Arches Half Marathon in Radcliffe.

Lee White was first Burndener home and first M40 in 12th place overall with a great time of 1:32:16.

Lucille Corrigan continued her great year, coming first F45 in 1:55:37. Paula Pilling was fourth female finisher, 29th overall and fourth F40 in 1:38:52. Andy Duffy was second M55 in 1:47:32.

Other results: Gareth Doherty (1:35:46), Mark Jackson (1:40:52), Linda O’Byrne (2:00:28), Richard Lord (2:03:42), Emma Walker (2:20:06), Nadia Raza (2:22:49), Peter Whiteside (2:29:14).

Andy Staveley won the V55 category and was 23rd overall in the Tatton Park 10k in Knutsford, posting a time of 39:07.

He was one of five Burnden runners taking part, with Shirley Staveley next to finish in 46:50 to claim second F50.

Jackie Spiby (56:38) and Tracy Hindley (1:00:57) were next and Christine Fernon, in her first run in the Burnden vest, crossed the line in 1:05:47.

Tim Taylor took part in the Run in the Dark 10k in Battersea Park, London.

He finished in a time of 47:16, second V55 and 200th out of a huge field of more than 1,000 runners.
