IT was a bad day for local teams in the West Lancashire League, with six league and cup matches resulting in six defeats.

Eagley dropped to bottom spot in the Premier Division after their 5-2 defeat at fellow strugglers Hesketh Bank. Nick Haynes and Jon Stevenson scored for the Eagles but the loss, coupled with Whitehaven's victory over Slyne With Hest, means they prop up the rest of the top flight.

There were Richardson Cup exits for Turton and Tempest United, both of whom shipped four goals.

Turton's Ally Dickson was on the mark with two goals but they were defeated 4-2 at Fulwood Amateurs, while Tempest were four goals in arrears before Sean Rothwell grabbed a 90th-minute consolation in their 4-1 defeat at home to Lostock St Gerards.

Division One side CMB exited the President's Cup at the second-round stage as they lost 2-1 at Milnthorpe Corinthians, despite Neil Holmes giving them a lead at half time.

In league action Jean Biangumba scored twice for Stoneclough but they lost 5-2 at Poulton, while Ladybridge were defeated 6-2 at Askam United.

Cosman Alexandreau and Kieron Edwards each scored but it was not enough to prevent their first defeat in five games.

The draw for the semi-finals of the prestigious Lancashire Amateur Shield handed Tempest United a difficult game against competition favourites, and West Lancashire League Premier Division rivals, Blackpool Wren Rovers.

The match will take place at Bamber Bridge's Sir Tom Finney Stadium on Wednesday, February 1, 7.30pm kick off.

The other semi final tie pits Garstang against Burscough Richmond a fortnight later.
