HORWICH St Mary’s Victoria came from behind on Saturday to beat Old Blackburnians 4-1 and keep the pressure up on Premier Division leaders Failsworth Dynamos.

Manager Dave Walker saw his side pepper the opposition’s goal but go behind.

However, on 30 minutes, a scramble ended with Jordon Coop equalising.

Horwich’s confidence grew but it wasn’t until the 55th minute that they went ahead after a well--worked goal that began down the left hand side of midfield with Glen Matthew.

The midfielder cut the ball back from the left of the box and into the path of Chris Ashton, who side footed the ball home from the edge of the box.

Striker Sam Parkinson then scored his first of two goals five minutes later when he broke the offside trap and slotted home. In a carbon copy of his first, Parkinson added a second and Horwich’s fourth, putting the game beyond Old Blackburnians.

The result keeps Horwich in second place and Walker said: “Weren’t at our best. We can play better and we’re improving all the time.”

Elsewhere, Little Lever scored a last-gasp equaliser against Tottington United.

Lever, who were playing at home, had gone 2-0 down and it looked as though they were going to make it four successive defeats.

However Matt Barnes’ side had other ideas and 20 minutes from time Craig Bingham pulled one back before Tom Maplesden headed in the equaliser just as the final whistle was about to sound.

Speaking after the game, manager Barnes said: “We want to be in the top four but that will be tough now”.
