BURNDEN chairman Rob Short led home a massive 72 members at the club’s annual Trotters 5-Mile multi-terrain race at Smithills Country Park.

He completed the two-lap course in 32mins 22secs, crossing the line 14th overall out of 340 finishers – a record field for the event.

Paul Duke was next in 33:06, 22nd overall, followed by George Butler, fourth u21 and 23rd in 33:15.

Andrew Henderson and Marcus Chester’s identical time of 33:36 in 29th and 30th ensured Burnden had five members in the top 30.

There were several home age-category successes. Men’s captain Marcus Taylor was first V45 in 33:43 and Paula Pilling was the club’s first lady finisher, fifth woman to complete the course and first F40 in 35:53.

Burnden took the next two places in the F40 category to complete a great one-two-three thanks to runs of 40:16 from Rebecca Wensley and 40:41 from Mumtaz Patel.

Lyndsay Darbyshire was first F45 in 38:05 and Katy Thompson third in the same class with 41:36, while Isaline Pollitt took the F50 category in 39:34.

Lesley Fisher (37:01), Anne Ferguson (39:49) and Kate Ellis (40:30) took second, third and fourth F55 places respectively.

Martyn Pollitt (33:58) and Keith Thomas (34:05) claimed second and third V55 places with Ed Ashton third V50 in 34:48 and Pete Hopley fourth V45 in 35:14.

Phil Glassbrook took the V70 prize in a time of 45:12.

Colin Faulds, Marcus Taylor and Nick Taylor made the trip to Pendle the previous day to take part in the Stan Bradshaw Fell Race – a tough 10.4-mile event with 1,936 feet of climbing.

Marcus Taylor was first home, 68th overall in 1:29:51, followed by Faulds in 1:30:25 and Nick Taylor in 1:34:42.
