AUSTRALIAN midfielder Hyuga Tanner has said he will be forced to quit Wanderers this summer because the transfer embargo left him starved of opportunities.

The former Blackburn Rovers youngster was signed at the start of the season alongside defender Sam Lavelle – but the EFL have stated categorically they could not be used for first-team games.

Wanderers have been limited to a 23-man quota in League One and the league rejected an attempt to promote another young forward, Jeff King, earlier this month.

Tanner, aged 19, said without guarantees of regular game-time next season he would have to move on.

“Unfortunately, the embargo has stopped me playing first-team football and I need to be out there getting some first-team experience,” he said.

“So at the end of this season I’ll be looking to go elsewhere and push for first-team action as the embargo doesn’t seem to be getting lifted anytime.

“Hopefully I can find that here in the UK, because I love playing here but if it means to go somewhere abroad again that can be an option too.”

Tanner has been a regular in David Lee’s development squad and originally left his native Sydney at the age of 14 to join Blackburn’s Academy.

A return to Australia has also not been discounted by the youngster.

“Everything is an option,” he told FourFourTwo.au. “If it feels like the right place to go for my career then I would. I have been watching the A-League and it looks like it’s improved a lot since I was last there.”
