ST Michael’s C of E Primary School have become Bolton athletics champions for the second year running.

They beat more than 20 primary schools to the town title, showing a diverse range of skills competing on the track and in a range of field events including speed bounce, javelin, ball push, standing long jump, standing high jump and triple jump.

Year 5 pupil Daniel Djambi produced one of the most spectacular individual performances of the event when he recorded a standing long jump of 2.2m, a huge leap for someone aged 10.

In the track events St Michael’s consistently finished in the first two in their heats which, added to their impressive field event scores, saw them win the competition and earn them the right to represent Bolton at the Greater Manchester Games.

The win adds to an impressive year for the Green Lane school, who will also represent Bolton at hockey at the Greater Manchester Games after becoming Bolton champions for the third year running.

The school has already won two girls' football competitions, a cluster cross-country competition, their boys' football team have also won all five of their games in their cluster league competition and they won the South Bolton Indoor Cricket Competition, beating St Simons and Jude’s in the final.

PE coordinator Mr Hulton added “It is an absolute honour to work with these children every day. The time and commitment they put into improving themselves truly is remarkable. They all know how incredibly proud of them the whole school are.”
