ROB Sharkey was the first Lostocker home in the Anniversary Waltz race with a very strong time of 2hrs 12mins last Saturday.

With a host of the club's most experienced fell runners making the journey to the Newlands Valley in the North West Lake District, Sharkey was followed home by Mark Shuttleworth (2:24:00) and Mark Checkley (2:45:00).

Starting an hour earlier and doing an additional four miles and 4,000 feet of climbing, Tony Marlow (4:34:00) and Josie Greenhaugh (4:34:00) both posted excellent times in the Teenagers with Altitude race.

At the opposite end of the country, Phil Sloane ended a year's frustration and injury to complete the London Marathon in a time of 4:45:00.

Originally scheduled to run in 2016, Sunday was the culmination of a year's recovery from injury for Sloane.

Describing the whole occasion as "a great day and so well organised" Sloane acknowledged his time, a full 40 minutes slower than his marathon personal best, was less important than having recovered from injury.

Closer to home the Bolton 10K saw strong performances from Lostock's James Jackson (42:28), Stuart Hatton (46:43), Andy Laycock (49:13), Matt Withers (50:51) and Karen Taylor (1:00:20).
