A CRICKET club took delivery of new sight screens thanks to a donation from a homebuilder.

Tonge Cricket Club received the two huge white boards to replace their old ones, which had become worn and weathered.

Taylor Wimpey Manchester offered to pay for the equipment that help the batsman to spot the ball better.

Paul Schofield, chairman at Tonge Cricket Club, said: "Kit such as sight screens are very costly to replace and, when we have so many other bits and pieces to pay for on an ongoing basis, it can be difficult to replace them as quickly as we’d like.

"We’re extremely grateful to Taylor Wimpey for its generosity and have no doubt the screens will be put to great use over the coming years."

Tonge Cricket Club, in Crompton Way, competes in the Bolton Cricket League with three junior teams and a senior first and second team.

Chloe Dunn, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Manchester, said: "We’re only too happy to be in a position to support local community causes, like Tonge Cricket Club, that place great emphasis on team sports and are a well-respected aspect of the area.

"We hope the new sight screens will serve the club well for the next few years and look forward to following the club’s success."

Taylor Wimpey's development Spinning Green is located close to the club and the company has encouraged its residents to watch a game over the summer.
