WANDERERS will give Mark Davies all the help they can in his rehabilitation despite announcing his contract will not be renewed next season.

The midfielder, who has been out of action since last August with a serious knee injury, had been with the Whites since 2009.

Signed for £1million by Gary Megson from Wolves, Davies was the longest-serving senior player in Phil Parkinson’s squad, making 209 appearances and scoring 16 goals. But while a mercurial talent when fully fit, the former England youth international suffered a string of injury mishaps which meant his promising Bolton career never quite took flight as it should.

The most recent setback, a ruptured cruciate ligament, occurred at The Valley, Charlton, and has required two operations.

But speaking to The Bolton News, Parkinson said the 29-year-old will be kept under the club’s wing this summer as he continues his recovery.

“Mark was excellent early on in the season and to pick up an injury like that was a huge blow,” he said. “He’s a good lad and we’ll give him whatever help he needs.”

Wanderers also confirmed full-backs Lawrie Wilson and Dean Moxey will not have their contract renewed when it expires in June.

“They were difficult decisions,” Parkinson said. “Lawrie was very unlucky to pick up an injury at MK Dons but that is looking very good now and he’ll be right for pre-season. We just had to make a choice.

“Deano started the season well, came into the team when required and did a good job. He trained extremely well and was a good influence on the younger players. He’ll benefit from a fresh start at another club and he’s a very good professional.

“I thank both Deano and Lawrie for their efforts this season and wish them all the luck in the future.”

Meanwhile, Wanderers have confirmed a first team pre-season friendly will be played at Stockport County on Tuesday, July 25 (kick-off 7.45pm). The Whites last went to Edgeley Park in 2002 when they emerged with a 4-1 win in the third round of the FA Cup.
