PHIL Parkinson won’t tolerate summer excess when his players return for duty next month.

The Wanderers boss has thus far been pleased with the condition of his squad as they came in for scheduled off-season fitness checks with head of sports science Nick Allamby at Lostock.

Full pre-season training will commence in three weeks, before a friendly to be played at Chorley on July 8.

Parkinson is keen to see his players rested after last season’s exertions but has urged his players to stay sensible in the final few weeks of their summer break.

“We know this season we’ll have to raise the bar,” he told The Bolton News. “The lads are coming in to see Nick and give us an indication where they are and how they have been looking after themselves. So far they have been in very good shape.

“It’s very important that on the first day of pre-season the lads walk back in the building and they make a statement with their physical condition because they are stepping into a higher league where everything will have to be that little bit better.”

Looking further ahead, Parkinson is keen to see Adam Le Fondre hit the ground running with a solid pre-season.

The striker had been stuck training with Cardiff City’s development squad for the last two summers as loans to Wolves and Wigan Athletic were decided.

“For the last couple of years he has been playing catch-up,” Parkinson said. “When he did get that run of games here, I think he showed his quality.

“He has a big challenge ahead of him. Alfie needs a big pre-season. He has got the hunger to play for Bolton, which for a manager is worth its weight in gold. He has to make sure he matches that physically.”

Meanwhile, the winding-up petition against Sports Shield BWFC has been adjourned until July 10.

The winders court has accepted a final delay at BluMarble’s request to allow both Dean Holdsworth’s SSBWFC and Ken Anderson’s Inner Circle Investments Ltd ime to discuss a transfer of shares.
